Jesus’ Brothers Disbelieve - The Heavenly Scholar - Could This Be the Christ? - Jesus and the Religious Leaders - The Promise of the Holy Spirit - Who Is He? - Rejected by the Authorities

The Gospel of John, chapter 7 And Jesus walked after these things in Galilee; for he did not want in Judea to walk, because they sought the Jews to kill him. Now is was at hand the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles. They said therefore to him his brothers; depart from here and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see the works that you are doing. For no one in secret does anything while he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world. For not even his brothers believed in him. Then he said to them Jesus; my time has not yet come, but your time always is ready. The world cannot hate you; but it hates me, because I testify of it that its works are evil. you go up to this feast; I am not yet going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come. These things when he had said to them he remained in Galilee. But when they had gone up his brothers, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. Then the Jews sought him at the feast and said; where is he? And much complaining concerning him there was among the people. Some said that he is good; others said, no, on the contrary he deceives the people. No one however spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews. Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And they marveled the Jews saying; how does he know letters having never studied? He answered them Jesus and said; my doctrine is not mine, but his who sent me; if anyone wills to do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on my own authority. he who speaks from himself his own glory seeks, but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him, he is true, and unrighteousness in him there is none. Did not Moses give you the law; yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me? The people answered and said; you have a demon; who is seeking to kill you? Jesus answered and said to them; I did one work, and you all marvel for it. Moses gave you circumcision, not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers, and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man. If circumcision a man (can) receive on the Sabbath so that should not be broken the law of Moses, are you angry (with me) because a man completely I made well on the Sabbath! Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. Now some of them said among the people of Jerusalem; Is this not he whom they seek to kill? But look he speaks boldly, and they say nothing to him. Do indeed the rulers know that this is truly the Christ? However this Man we know where he is from; but about Christ when he comes, no one knows where he is from. Then he cried out in the temple as Jesus taught saying; you both know me, and you know where I am from; and of myself I have not come, but is true he who sent me, whom you do not know; But I know him, for I am from him and he sent me. Therefore they sought to take him, but no one laid a hand on him, because had not yet come his hour. And many of the people believed in him and said that Christ when he comes, will he more signs than these do which this Man has done? The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring concerning him these things, and they sent officers the Pharisees and the chief priests to arrest him. Then Jesus said to them; a little while longer I shall be with you and then I go to him who sent me. you will seek me and not find me; and where I am, you cannot come. Then the Jews said among themselves; where does he intend to go, that we shall not find him? Maybe to the Dispersion of the Greeks does he intend to go and teach the Greeks? What is this words that he said, you will seek me and not find me, and where I am, you cannot come? On the last day the great day of the feast Jesus stood and cried out saying; If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. he who believes in me, as the scripture has said, rivers out of his heart will flow of living water. But this he spoke concerning the Spirit that would receive whom those believing in him; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Therefore many from the crowd when they heard this saying said; he is truly the prophet. Others said; this is the Christ; others said; can out of Galilee the Christ come? Has not the scripture said that from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was, the Christ comes? So a division there was among the people because of him. Now some wanted of them to arrest him, but no one laid on him his hands. Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them; why have you not brought him? The officers answered; never in this way (any) man has spoken like this man. Then the Pharisees answered them; are you also deceived? Have any of the rulers believed in him or of the Pharisees? But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed. said Nicodemus to them, the one who came by night to Him, being one of them; Does our law judge a man, if doesn't hear from him before and knows what he is doing? They answered and said to him; you also are from Galilee? Search and find out for prophet out of Galilee has not arisen. And everyone went to his own house.
